Mavilayi on wikipedia (Malayalam)
Hello a small biginning, if it can be said so. The biggest problem is typing in malayalam.
If any one is well versed in Malayalam typing in wiki....... please take this forward.
Another biggest problem is lack of realiable data. About history of mavilayi , history of the mavilayi temple, history of other places of interests in mavilayi, about people of mavilayi etc.....
availability of these data is another problem.
With the passing of a generation these data will be lost for good. If any one can get hold of the details pls take time to add a few lines. If you find it diffcult to type in wiki malayalam, add these details as comment to this blog I will try to add it to wiki whenever I get time
and the link of wiki mavilayi is

Mavilayi a spirit, a spirit a culture
Mavilayi is a village in the kannur district of Kerala. It is famous place for two reasons.
In Malayalam there is a saying called “nhanoru mavilayi kkaran” ( I belong to Mavilayi !!) and this means that I don’t know. The origin of this was from a Novel by noted Malayalam writer Sanjayan. Often this is quoted in comic and cartoon columns in newspapers.
The other probably more important and historic reason of the fame of Mavilayi is because of the temple “Mavilakkavu”, daivathar is the main deity of this temple. This temple festival is held in the month of April during the Vishu an harvest festival of Kerala.
As part of this festival there is a sacred exchange of blows festival (In Malayalam Adi festival). It is a no-holds-barred physical combat between two teams of powerfully-built men, sitting on the shoulders of tall men who are propped up by their aides from the sides to keep them from wobbling during the man to man fight. the referee is daivathar (avatar of lord siva), the temple’s presiding deity. People who take part in this Adi are known as “Kaikkonmar” . All mavilakkar and thousands of people from different parts of north Kerala, irrespective of caste, creed, religion or political affiliation (Mavilayi is a strong left citadel (CPM) and the birth place of noted communist leader A. K Gopalan), throng the temple on these days.
Mavilayi musings to be continued .................
